Mars known as Angaraka means “fiery” or “ember‑red,” pointing to Mars’s red color and heated temperament. He is also known as the son of the Earth, Bhumi. Puranic accounts name the sage Bhrigu and Kavi as his parents; Bhrigu is a major Vedic rishi famed for lawgiving, and Kavi is an ancient seer‑poet linked to ritual lore.

The Bhāgavata and Skanda Purāṇa give a violent, martial origin. Born from the god of war or from the blood or sweat of gods in battle, puranic narratives portray him as a fearless protector who fights daityas and upholds territorial sovereignty.
