Hello, I'm Sapna.

From textiles to architecture to jewelry, I've always been drawn to the stories that surround objects from around the world.

I delight in the wondrous abilities of art to carry me off to far away lands.
In my work as a designer, I strive to evoke a tapestry of history, imagination and discovery that speaks to the global soul. My sense of style is guided by simplicity and wearability and my designs are influenced by Eastern symbolism, folk arts and the natural world.

Many years ago, I became immersed in studying traditional jewelery art forms with artisans in Jaipur. I was drawn to the beauty of kundan, the rich history of the technique and the generations of craftsmen who kept this art form alive.

In 2007, after passing through many fires of my own, I launched my first collection in collaboration with master craftsmen in Jaipur. I am indebted to the artisans who generously shared their knowledge with me and grateful for all the people and experiences that have enriched and shaped my life.

The power of dreaming, the healing spirit of family and friends and the transformation that occurs by passing through fire are the mantras that guide my journey.

I treasure artisanship.

No casts, molds, dies or stamps are used to craft my designs. Tools and methods passed down over 400 years are still honored and used today by generational artisans.

My designs are meticulously crafted by hand by master craftsmen.

Each piece is individually crafted, one at a time, by a team of four to five master artisans skilled in jewelry-making techniques that date back to the royal kingdoms of 17th century India. Each stage of jewelry making requires patience, skill and an inherent love of the craft from the craftsmen.

Every piece in my collection is a testament to their dedication.

I believe
in triumph.

I use kundan, purified 24k gold, in my jewelry as a metaphor of inner strength, perseverance and our ability to overcome and triumph.

“Gold becomes kundan only after passing through fire.”

Kundan is created by firing unrefined gold at extreme temperatures till all impurities are burned away.

This proverb from Rajasthan is a testament to the human spirit and a source of immense inspiration for me.

As we pass through our own fires, our inner strength is revealed and transforms us into pure gold, into kundan.

Master artisans use kundan to set natural, hand cut gems in my jewelry. I use it to celebrate our ability to overcome and triumph.

I am
inspired

How it interrupts thought and creates room for new experience.
I love cities. Embodying the now and exploring tomorrows. I love their sheer drive and energy.
I love the intricate carved details of old architecture. I love the calm of simplicity in contemporary design.
The aesthetic mix in music and food.
I love how imperfection brings life to things crafted with human hands. I love how stories are meticulously loomed into textiles, carved into block prints and hued in enamels.
I explore the realm of traditions, re-imagined through design. I aspire to create the timeless which transcends the old and the new.
My work is here and now in synchrony with the global soul.
